Oxaliplatin


Oxaliplatin

Class:Cytostatic

Mechanism of action

Oxaliplatin inhibits cell division by cross linking strands of DNA molecule.

Indications

Platinum coordination coplex in combination with infusional 5-FU/LU is indicated for the treatment of patients with metastatic carcinoma of the colon or rectum whose disease has recurred or progressed during or within 6 months of completion of first line therapy with the combination of bolus 5-FU/LV and irinotecan.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to oxaliplatin or other platinum compound.

Side effects

Anaemia,neutropenia,fever,flushing,diarrhea,nausea,peripheral neuropathy,vomiting.

Dosage

130mg/m­­­2(range 85-135mg/m2) IV for one dose on day 1.30mg/m2/day by continuous IV infusion for 5 consecutive days(total dose per cycle 150mg/m2).
