Hyoscine-N-butylbromide

Class:antispasmodic and anticholinergic

Mechanism of action

Muscarinic receptor antagonist

Indication

Hyoscine-N-butylbromide is indicated for the treatment of smooth muscle spasm

Contraindication

Closed angle glaucoma,gastric or duodenal ulcer causing stenosis and significant gastric retention,urinary retention;urinary retention in prostate hypertrophy,paralytic ileus,debilitated patients with esophageal reflux or esophagitis.since heat loss through sweating is suppressed,caution in high ambient temperature as hyperpyrexia may result,particularly in infants.

Precautions

Caution in condition characterized by tachycardia such as thyrotoxicosis,cardiac insufficiency or failure and in cardiac surgery.concomitant administration of other parasympathomimetic drug such as amantadine,some antihistamines,butyrophenones,phenothiazine and tricyclic anti depressants.

Dosage

Tabs:adults:1 tab tds syp:6-12 years,1-2 teaspoon 3 time daily
