Class:Scabicides and Pediculicides

Mechanism of action

Inhibits sodium ion influx through nerve cell membrane channels in parasites resulting in delayed repolarization and thus paralysis and death of the pest.

Pharmacokinetics

Absorption:Topical:minimal(<2 percent).Metabolism:in the liver by ester hydrolysis to inactive metabolites.Elimination:in urine.

Indications

Head lice and also for the head lice infestation in those at risk.

Contraindications

Known hypersensitivity to pyrethroid,pyrethrin or chrysanthemums.

Precautions

Treatment may temporarily exacerbate the symptoms of itching,redness,swelling;for external use only,use during pregnancy only if clearly needed.

Side effects

Burning,stinging,tingling,numbness or scalp discomfort,edema.

Dosage

Adults and Children:apply once to whole body excluding head and face.Ensure that the skin is clean,dry and cool prior to treatment.Wash out after 8-24 hours.a second application may be given if necessary.
