Cetirizine
Class:Antihistamines
Indications
Perennial allergic
rhinitis due to allergens such as dust miles,animal dander and molds in adults
and children 2 years of age and older.Sneezing,rhinorrhea,postnasal
discharge,nasal pronatus,ocular pruritis and tearing.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to
it or any of its ingredients or hydroxyzine.
Precautions
Patients taking
cetirizine,caution should be exercised when driving a care or operating
potentially dangerous machinary.Concurrent use of cetirizine with alcohol or
other CNS depressants should be avoided because additional reduction in
alertness and additional impairments of CNS performance may occur.
Drug interaction
No clinically
significant drug interaction have been found with theophylline at a low
dose,azithromycin,pseudoephedrine,ketoconazole or erythromycin.
Dosage
The recommended
initial dose of cetirizine is 5 to 10 mg(1 or 2 teaspoons) once daily.In
children age 2 to 5 years is 2.5 mg(1/2 teaspoon) once daily.
