Indications
Pizotifen is
indicated for the treatment of anorexia of somatic or psychogenic origin in
underweight patients.typical or atypical migraine.vasomotor headaches,cluster
headache(Horton syndrome)
Contraindications
Pizotifen should not
be given to children below 1 year of age.
Precautions
Patients should be
warned that,owing to its possible sedative effect,pizotifen may slow their
reactions when driving vehicles operating machinery etc.
Side effects
Dizziness,dry
mouth,and constipation,in children CNS stimulation may occur.
Pregnancy and lactation
As clinical data with
pizotifen in pregnany are very limited.pizotifen should be administered only
under compelling circumstances .although the concentration of pizotifen
measured in the milk of treated mothers are not likely to affect the
infants,the use in nursing mothers is not recommended.
Drug interaction
Central effects of
sedatives,hypnotics and antihistamines including certain common cold
preparations and alcohol may be enhanced.
Dosage
Anorexia:children:2-6
year;5-10 ml syrup.6-12 year:10-20 ml syrup.adults:0.5 mg per day,increased
upto 0.5 mg 3 times daily.
